A day in the life of Lauren // Christmas Day

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas Day with your family and friends and got everything you wished for, I know I certainly did. I always feel a bit sad that it's all over on Boxing Day, I spend the whole month getting excited and then when the day comes it just zooms by. Boxing Day just tends to be a day for relaxing in my new pjs  whilst watching films and pigging out on chocolate so I thought that being as I've got nothing much to do I'd share a few of my Christmas Day snaps and show you what I wore.

I know some of you crazy lot get up super early on Christmas Day but me and my mum aren't really 'morning people' shall we just say so we got up at the slightly later time of 9am. The first thing we always do is open all of our presents, I'm extremely happy with all of mine and I was so pleased that my mum bought me the fluffy teddy bear dressing gown I've wanted for ages! I love all of my presents equally so I don't really have a favourite but I'm so excited to have a play around with some of my new makeup.

Once we'd opened all of our presents I started to get ready. Every girl will know where  I'm coming from when I say using new makeup for the first time is just the best feeling ever! I'll most probably review some of my new products in a couple of weeks if that's something you'd all be interested in? Anyway... If you read my previous 'Christmas tag' blogpost then you'll know that my favourite makeup look for Christmas Day is a bright red lip, gold smoky eyes and winged eyeliner so that's exactly the look I went for again this year. As for my outfit I couldn't decide what to wear as I got a few new clothes but I went for the red jacket in the end and teamed it with my new pointy heels, I just love dressing up on Christmas Day.

After spending the morning getting ready me and my mum headed out to go round my Grandma's for Christmas dinner like we do every year. I love spending the day round my Grandma's just relaxing and having a laugh, plus she makes the nicest Christmas dinner ever and always gives me extra pigs in blankets which are my faves! Me and my mum always like to get home in time to put our new pjs on and watch all of the soaps with a few drinks so that's exactly what we did, we had such a laugh having a sing song later on in the night.

All in all I had the best Christmas Day ever and I feel so lucky to have such an amazing mum and grandma who always make sure I have the best Christmas ever. Although I'm sad it's all over I can't wait for the new year and my birthday isn't far away so there's a lot to look forward to.

I hope you all had a lovely day,

The Christmas tag // Merry Christmas everyone

With just hours to go until it's CHRISTMASSS it's safe to say I'm a little excited, well maybe more than a little excited! I've been planning for weeks what blogpost I'd do on Christmas Eve and in the end I decided I'd do 'The Christmas tag' because I haven't done one for a while. So if you'd like to get to know a little more about me and my families traditions at Christmas time then you're reading the right blogpost.

1. On a scale of 1-10 how much are you in the Christmas mood?
Erm I'd probably say a strong 9. Okay I'm lying, I'm so a 10! I'm like an excitable child on Christmas Eve if you hadn't already noticed?

2. When wrapping presents is it a fail or are you a pro?
I absolutely love wrapping presents but I'm not always such a pro at it, anything that's not boxed shaped ends up looking a little like a kid has been let loose with the wrapping paper and cellotape.

3. When did you put your Christmas decorations up and do you do anything special whilst putting them up?
The tree always goes up on the 1st and so do the rest of the decorations, if I had it my way the tree would be up all year round. I love how cosy it makes the living room! I just listen to Christmas music whilst putting the tree up to get me in the mood!

4. Do you get dressed up or stay in your pjs on Christmas Day?
I love nothing more than getting dressed up, after I've opened my presents the first thing I do is do my hair and makeup and put my fave outfit on!

5. What would be your dream place to go during the Christmas season?
I'm very much a home girl so I just enjoy being at home with my family over Christmas! Saying that though me and my family always used to go away to Gran-Canaria for Christmas and New Years Eve and I really miss that so I'd say Gran-Canaria.

6. What is your Christmas tree decorated like?
Our tree is black with silver and red decorations to match our living rooms colour scheme which is red!

7. Can you name all of Santa's reindeers? (Without googling)
Erm, how many reindeers are there again? Obviously Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet and that's all I can think of!

8. Are you on the naughty or nice list this year? (Be honest)
Of course I'm on the nice list, I'm always good...

9. Name three things you love to do coming up to Christmas?
1. Put the tree and decorations up
2. Decorate a gingerbread house
3. A girly day Christmas shopping with my mum & grandma

10. Any Christmas wishes?
Health & happiness for all of my friends and family

11. Name 10 Christmas songs you love?
I don't think I've got 10 but here's a few...

1. All I want for Christmas is you (my all time fave)
2. Rocking around the Christmas tree
3. I wish it could be Christmas everyday

12. Name 3 Christmas movies you love?
1. The holiday
2. Home alone
3. Love actually

13. Do you like white lights or coloured?
Definitely white- they look much prettier!

14. Which do you like better, Christmas Day or Christmas Eve?
I'd have to say Christmas Day because I love spending the day with my family and opening presents- I just love everything about it!

15. Which is your favourite Christmas makeup look to wear?
Definitely red lipstick and a gold smokey eye with winged eyeliner- how festive!

16. Right now as you're answering these questions how long is it till Christmas?
Well it's Christmas Eve so only a few hours, eeeek!

17. Do you have any presents that you open on Christmas Eve?
No, I save them all for Christmas Day!

18. Name three things on your Christmas list
1. A new fluffy dressing gown
2. Makeup (of course)
3. Clothes

19. You're having a down day and you're not in the Christmas mood, what do you do to change your mood and become Christmas happy?
Run a hot candlelit bubble bath whilst listening to my favourite songs

20. What is the best thing on your plate when you have your Christmas dinner?
No doubt about it, pigs in blankets. Hands down the best thing about Christmas dinner!

Merry Christmas everybody, I hope you all have a lovely day with your family & friends tomorrow! Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

Last minute Christmas gift ideas

There's only one word needed to describe last minute shopping and that's...nightmare. The long queues in the shops, impatient people dashing around everywhere and the panic that you won't get all of your shopping finished in time for the big day! Now I'm pretty certain that the majority of you organised lot have already finished your shopping but in case you haven't I'm here with a few last minute gift ideas- you can thank me later.

In my opinion the best kind of gift you can give somebody for Christmas is a hamper with all of their favourite little bits in. You don't have to spend a lot you can just buy small thoughtful gifts, such as their favourite chocolates, lipstick and so on. Just dig out an old basket or a box if you don't have one of those, head to your local card shop and pick up a big bow, ribbon and some cellophane to wrap it all up and you're good to go.

You can put absolutely anything in a hamper but if you're lacking on ideas then here's a few suggestions...

You could also go with a theme for what you put in their hamper such as a 'pamper box' including face masks, a box of chocolates, nail varnish, slippers, pjs, candles and a bottle of wine. Or maybe you'd like to go with a 'night out' theme and fill the basket with makeup, fake eye lashes, perfume, a bottle of their favourite alcoholic drink and a few hair products. A photo frame of you and the person you're giving the hamper too is also a nice idea,  I personally love receiving thoughtful gifts.

I hope that's gave you a few last minute ideas, have you finished your Christmas shopping yet?

Christmas nail art inspiration

There was a time when I used to be obsessed with painting my nails and making them look all pretty but as of late I just can't be bothered to sit waiting for them to dry for hours... okay, maybe it doesn't take hours but it's still a pain nonetheless. That's until I came across a picture of somebodies Christmas pudding nails on Instagram and just fell in love so of course I had to copy. You can definitely say I've rediscovered my love for painting nails all over again! Anyway enough of the rambling on, I've decided to share my favourite Christmas nail art designs with you all! So if like me you'd like to let your nails in on the festive fun then here's a few designs you can copy...

MAC prep + prime 'light boost' highlighter review

Trying to disguise dark under eye circles is an absolute nightmare, isn't it girls? Well fear no more as I think I might just have found a miracle product, forget the daily battle with concealer as that'll be a thing of the past once you get your hands on MAC Prep + prime highlighter in the shade 'light boost' -phew, what a lengthly name.

You might think that forking out £18.50 is a bit steep for a highlighter but it's honestly worth every penny and I'll definitely be repurchasing once mines ran out. I really like the pen applicator where you just simply twist the end of the pen to release the product, it means that no product goes to waste. It's also really handy for on the go too so if you wanted to retouch your makeup whilst you're out it'd be super quick and easy.

I bought this purely to brighten up my under eye area as I suffer from particularly bad dark circles but I've also been using it to highlight my cheekbones too for those days I want a more subtle highlight. It's a really creamy, lightweight product so it won't look cakey in the slightest and it blends so smoothly! Also it's absolutely brilliant for contouring so if you're after that Kim K look then here's your product, it really brightens up your whole face and gives the nicest 'lit from within' effect.

After just applying it once I was head over heels in love, my dark under eye circles were finally gone and I looked so much more awake. I can't tell you how happy I was and for that reason I haven't got a bad word to say and would recommend this to anybody that's looking for a good highlighter that they can use to contour with! I'd go as far to say this is one of my 'holy grail' products.

PS - if you'd like to know how I apply this product then then you can read about it, here

Do you like the look of this highlighter? What's your holy grail product?

MAC 'Velvet Teddy' dupe

I've been thinking about getting a nude lipstick for a while now so off I went to MAC in search for 'Velvet Teddy'. Surprise, surprise they didn't have it in stock- damn you MAC. Desperate to get my Kylie Jenner on I searched Boots high and low for a similar shade, I must have swatched every nude lipstick in existence on the back of my hand!

Half an hour later I finally found the perfect nude..okay maybe that's a slight exaggeration. Rimmel's lasting finish by Kate '03' is near enough an identical match to MAC's 'Velvet Teddy' so I had to have it. The only difference being 'Velvet Teddy' is a matte finish whereas the Rimmel one has a slight sheen.

Everybody that knows me knows that I'm never seen without bright lippy on so I'm going right outside my comfort zone with this 'barely there' shade. With that being said although it is a huge change for me to don a more natural lipstick I absolutely love it! It's the perfect shade for anybody wanting a bit of colour, I was worried it'd make me look washed out but it doesn't in the slightest.

I'm normally a MAC lipstick girl but I think I'll definitely buy more of the Kate lipsticks in the future as they're much more affordable and in my opinion just as good. The lasting power maybe it's as great as MAC but that isn't a problem as you can just reapply and for less than half the price who's complaining?

I always tend to go for a more dramatic eye when I wear this lipstick but it's entirely up to you, this would be the perfect makeup look if you was going on a night out and would like to play about with a bit of eyeshadow. It'd look equally as nice paired with more natural eye makeup for the daytime though, the choice is yours.

What do you think to this lipstick, are you a fan?

November favourites

The start of a new month only means one thing for us bloggers and that's a recap of the beauty products we've been loving over the past month- it's just the unwritten rule that you have to write one of these. I'm more excited than ever because it's officially my all time favourite month and I just can't wait until Christmas! So without further ado here's what I've been loving lately...

MAC | Bronzing powder | Shade- Matte bronze
If you read my blog regularly and you're an observant kinda person then you might be thinking 'she's mentioned this bronzer before' and you'd be right to say so because I have. I'm going to mention it again though because I just love it, the reason being is because unlike most bronzers it doesn't contain any glitter/shimmer and I think it's also a really natural looking shade as appose to the 'I've just been tangoed' look- not a good look may I just add.

As well as using it to contour my cheekbones and add a bit of a golden glow I quite often use it as an eyeshadow too, a two in one product right there. It's perfect for creating a golden brown smokey eye and looks stunning when you sweep a bit over the crease of your eyelid whilst teaming it with a shimmery gold shade all over your eyelids!

Essie | Nail varnish | Shade- Toggle to the top
The first thing that springs to mind when I wear this nail varnish is CHRISTMAS because it's such a festive colour! It's a really dark red with little bits of glitter in, from a distance it looks like a burgundy kind of colour though- I'm brill at explaining the colour of something, right?

Ciaté | Nail Varnish | Unsure of shade
This is my absolute favourite nail colour, ever. It's a hot pink shade but there's something a little different about it, it's a very unique colour that I won't even try to explain as I'll just embarrass myself. As you can tell describing the colour of something definitely isn't my forte, I shan't be giving up the day job any time soon!

Dior | Lip gloss | Rose trench for her
This lipgloss had been left in the draw unloved for quite some time up until now. I don't usually wear lipgloss because I can't stand the stickiness and it's a right pain if it's windy because your hair just gets stuck to your lips but those annoying points aside I love it. I usually apply a bit over my lipstick and it really does make my lips look a lot bigger than they are and it's great because it isn't (too) sticky.

Which products have you enjoyed using over the past month, any you'd recommend?

Christmas gift guide for her

1. Topshop | Balconette Bra | £18
Topshop do the prettiest underwear sets and this one is no exception. Simple, classy and girly!

2. Topshop | Mini Knickers | £10

3. H&M | Wraparound skirt | £20
I absolutely love this skirt, it could either be dressed down with black tights and a cami top or you could dress it up for a night out with some heels!

4. River Island | Cream embellished neckline tank top | £32
This is the perfect top to wear if you want to look like you've made an effort when you really haven't, it would look equally as nice with a pair of skinny jeans!

5. River Island | Cream colour block wing tote bag | £45
River Island have so many nice handbags at the minute so I found it hard trying to choose just one. This is the one I went for in the end though because I think it'd be really versatile and I love the colours!

6. Olivia Burton | Wonderland rose gold plated watch | £65
All of the Olivia Burton watches are gorgeous but this one is my favourite. So classy and you could wear it everyday as it'd go with every outfit!

7. River Island | Pink gemstone oversized stud earrings | £10
I'm sure all you girly girls love these earrings, well I know I certainly do anyway. These aren't too expensive either so they're good if you're after a little something!

8. River Island | Black faux fur collar jacket | £50
Big cape style jackets with fur on are really in at the moment so this is bang on trend.

9. River Island | Black platform sandals | £55
I fell head over heels in love for these heels as soon as I first set my eyes on them! Not quite sure how I'd walk in them but I'm sure I'd certainly try my best.

10. River Island | Black block heel ankle boots | £40
A slightly more sensible shoe option, these would look perfect with just about every outfit!

11. MAC | Heirloom lipstick | £17
What girl wouldn't want a sparkly MAC lipstick for Christmas? You'll definitely be in her good books if you buy her one of these!

12. Urban Decay | Naked 2 palette | £37
My favourite out of all of the naked palettes, it's really versatile and could be used for all occasions. You could create either a bold smoky eye or a more natural look using the neutral colours so is definitely worth buying!

What gifts would you like to receive on Christmas Day, any of these? Lauren x

My guide to flawless, radiant skin

I'm not certain about a lot of things but when it comes to flawless, radiant skin I'm pretty sure you'll agree with me that everybody would love to have it- me included. I'm not joking when I say it's taken me years to find the right products that work for me, I must have tried just about every skin care product in existence. From foundation to a good moisturiser that won't bring me out in an unsightly break out I think I've finally mastered this whole skin care malarkey, *salsa dancing emoji*.

There's nothing worse than waking up with a gang of spots that seem to have accumulated over night without invite, is there? I'm guessing your answer is a no! With this is mind I've decided to talk you through my skin care and makeup routine in a bid to hopefully help anybody that's struggling to cope with their uncooperative skin.

Skin care

You don't need to be a genius to know that if you want flawless skin then you need to look after it with the right skin care products. I've already wrote about my skin care regime so I shan't bore you all by rambling on about it again, read all about it here.

Simple | cleanser and toner

Clean & Clear | oil free moisturiser

Make-up routine

As well as looking after your skin you need to make sure you're applying the right makeup products. There's so many foundations and powders out there so it makes it all the more difficult, how do you know which to go for? I just want to add before I talk you through my daily makeup routine that just because this works for me it doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for you. Go for the products that suit your skin type best, if you struggle to decide which product is best for you I'd advise going to your local makeup counter such as MAC, No7 etc and ask a professional makeup artist to help you.

Rimmel | Fix & Perfect | Primer
Before I apply my foundation I apply a primer all over my face. If you don't already use a primer then I'd really recommend you use one as it helps your foundation go on a lot more smoothly. It also stops your foundation from clinging to any dry areas or sitting in any fine lines!

MAC | Studio Fix Fluid | Foundation
Once I've applied a primer and made sure it's all dry I'm then ready to apply foundation. I really like MAC studio fix but as it's high coverage I find it a little heavy so I mix one pump of foundation with the same amount of oil free moisturiser on the back of my hand to thin it out. I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do but it works for me and it gives me a nice natural dewy glow. I use a real techniques stippling brush to apply my foundation, I've found applying a little amount first and building up the coverage gradually works best!

Collection | Lasting Perfection | Concealer
The dark circles under my eyes are awful and I have a real hard time trying to cover them. I didn't realise that I was actually applying my concealer incorrectly until I came across a photo on Pinterest! The collection concealer is so good, it's super high coverage so it's brilliant for somebody like me who resembles a panda. I'm useless at explaining so here's a
picture of how you should apply your concealer instead...

MAC | Mineralize Skinfinish Natural | Powder
After the five minute battle I have trying to cover up the dark circles under my eyes I swiftly move on to setting my foundation with a powder, I usually use a real techniques buffing brush. As it's name suggests this powder gives a really natural finish and doesn't look cakey in the slightest- I'd definitely recommend it.

MAC | Bronzing powder | Shade- Matte Bronze
I don't go crazy when it comes to bronzer, I usually just very subtly contour my cheekbones using a real techniques contour brush. I make sure I blend, blend, blend so I don't end up with the dreaded 'orange stripe'. This bronzing powder is my absolute favourite as it doesn't contain any glitter/shimmer and is quite a natural shade, i can guarantee you won't end up an orange glittery mess with this bronzer!

MAC | Mineralize Skinfinish Natural | Soft & Gentle
Last but not least, highlighter. I apply this to the top of my cheekbones, down the middle of my nose, under my brown bone and to my Cupid's bow. I'm an absolute sucker for highlighting products, I just love glowing looking skin. This does just that, it gives you the most natural looking radiant glow.

So there we have it, my skin care and makeup routine. What did you think to this post, did you find it helpful at all? Lauren x

Herbal Essences 'bee strong' hair mask review

Nobody likes unhappy, lacklustre looking locks do they? Well I know I certainly don't anyway! My hair has needed some serious TLC as of late, it's been so dry and has been crying out for me to inject some moisture back into it. That's when I went on the prowl for a good old deep conditioning hair mask to work it's magic. After reading various different reviews online and a ten minute, scan every shelf possible in boots in search for 'the one' I came across Herbal Essences bee strong strengthening intensive mask.

At an absolute steal of £4.39 you really can't go wrong- I think that's such a reasonable price to pay for a good quality hair mask. I've heard nothing but good things about the Herbal Essences bee strong range so I've been meaning to try some of the products out for a while, it's safe to say I was a little excited to try this hair mask for the first time!

I can honestly say I'm not disappointed in the slightest and would 100% recommend it to anybody that wants to bring their damaged hair back to life. After just one use my hair looked so shiny and glossy, not mentioning just how gorgeous it smelt too. It says on the tub 'with honey & apricot extracts' so you can probably imagine just how nice it smells, I'd buy it just for that!

I haven't got a bad word to say about this hair mask, it's left my hair so soft and I'm extremely pleased with the results. It's great for if you're on a bit of a budget as the tub would last weeks, you only need to use it once a week. I'm definitely going to go out and buy the rest of the products in the bee strong range! If you would like to spend a little more though another hair mask I'd recommend is the Lee Stafford treatment for hair that never grows past a certain length. I've mentioned this before on my blog, review here.

What do you think to hair masks, any you'd recommend? Lauren x
